Loading date...The fastest way to find out whether your brand is ready for the Digital Product Passport is to work through a short list of questions with your team. The more gaps it surfaces, the clearer your roadmap. Here is the full checklist, grouped so you can hand each section to the right owner.
Regulation and timeline
Do you know your category timeline, and which delegated act applies? (Textile act expected around 2027; batteries mandatory February 2027.)
If you sell in France, are you meeting AGEC disclosure requirements today?
Do you have a budget and a roadmap allocated for the DPP before the delegated act lands?
Identifiers and data (the heart of it)
Which maturity level are you at today, and what is your target?
Do you have item-level serialization, or only product or model-level IDs?
Are you using, or planning to use, GS1 Digital Link as your product identifier?
Is your product data structured and clean enough to surface in a DPP: composition per component, country of origin by step, care, and certifications with traceable documents?
Can you collect the required data from your suppliers, and do you have a way to keep it current?
Do you have a clear owner and governance model for the DPP record?
Technology and carriers
Will your current tags survive a product's full life: washing, wear, resale, recycling?
Have you chosen a data-carrier strategy across QR, GS1 DataMatrix, NFC, and RAIN RFID, most likely a mix?
Is your data infrastructure API-ready, with unique product landing pages and machine-readable output?
Do you have a plan for the EU DPP Registry and a compliant third-party back-up provider?
Can your existing RFID or inventory infrastructure be extended for the DPP?
Organization and delivery
Do you have a single owner for the DPP across compliance, product, data, and marketing?
Have you identified a pilot and a delivery partner?
Is anti-counterfeit and brand protection built into your identifier?
Opportunity
Is marketing or customer experience on board to own the new consumer channel?
Are you exploring lifecycle value: resale, repair, recycling, and loyalty?
Are you engaging with the standards process for your category?
What your answers tell you
The gaps you just found are your roadmap. When several of them sit outside your own team, that is usually the sign to bring in a partner. And if you could not confidently answer the identifier and data questions, start there, because item-level identity and clean data are the work that takes longest.
